In person · Pittsburgh · PA · United States
Research provider: Pitt+Me
About this study
Are you 18 years of age? Do you have mild to high pain in the jaw, neck, back, shoulders, or limbs? You may be able to participate in a research study to better understand how pain, mood, and mental health are related in youth. Compensation is provided.
What you’ll do
This study will examine brain activity, pain, and mood in adolescents with musculoskeletal pain in limbs, back, neck, or shoulders. We will also ask questions about depressive symptoms and suicidal ideation and behavior. We will use functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) to measure brain activity, and will use questionnaires and repeated home electronic assessments to measure pain, mood, and behavior. All adolescent participants will be asked to also complete a 7-day home assessment via their phone after the 2nd visit, and again approximately once a month for 5 additional months.

Are you 18 to 65? Have you had a recent orthopedic injury? You may be eligible for a research study to understand why some people experience many serious symptoms following a mild traumatic brain injury, while others have very few of these symptoms. Compensation is provided.
Are you 65 years of age or older and have difficulty walking? You may be eligible for a research study to evaluate the effectiveness of a brief strength training program. Participants will be assigned to either a brief strength training program (immediately) or a delayed-treatment group that will start in a year. Participation also involves 3 visits to test your physical performance and balance.
Are you planning a scar contracture release and reconstruction surgery with your physician? Are you willing to be assigned by chance to one of two treatments, either a standard of care (SOC) surgery, or an SOC surgery plus a graft of your own fat? You may be eligible for a research study to compare these surgeries.
