About this study
Are you 65 years of age or older and have difficulty walking? You may be eligible for a research study to evaluate the effectiveness of a brief strength training program. Participants will be assigned to either a brief strength training program (immediately) or a delayed-treatment group that will start in a year. Participation also involves 3 visits to test your physical performance and balance.
What you’ll do
The research study will last 12-18 months. You will be provided access to an exercise intervention that you will do at home, featuring brief strength and balance exercises. You will be asked to come to the University of Pittsburgh 3 times throughout the study to test your functional physical performance and balance. You will be asked to wear an ActivPal device that measures activity for 7 days 3 times throughout the study. You will be asked to answer surveys electronically throughout the study.
Who the researchers are looking for
Are you 65 years of age or older and have difficulty walking? You may be eligible for a research study to evaluate the effectiveness of a brief strength training program. Are you 18 years of age? Do you have mild to high pain in the jaw, neck, back, shoulders, or limbs? You may be able to participate in a research study to better understand how pain, mood, and mental health are related in youth. Compensation is provided.
Are you 18 to 65? Have you had a recent orthopedic injury? You may be eligible for a research study to understand why some people experience many serious symptoms following a mild traumatic brain injury, while others have very few of these symptoms. Compensation is provided.
Are you planning a scar contracture release and reconstruction surgery with your physician? Are you willing to be assigned by chance to one of two treatments, either a standard of care (SOC) surgery, or an SOC surgery plus a graft of your own fat? You may be eligible for a research study to compare these surgeries.
